Senior Session Wardrobe Prep Guide: What to Wear for Senior Photos

1. Let Your Style Lead the Way: Trends come and go, but your photos should reflect you. Whether you're into neutrals, bold colors, streetwear, or vintage vibes—lean into your style. The goal isn’t to match someone else’s aesthetic, but to highlight yours.

2. Think About Location & The setting of your session can really influence your outfit choices:

  • If we're shooting in tall grasses and foothills, earth tones, rust, olive, denim, or flowing fabrics look beautiful.

  • For a downtown or urban shoot, bold colors, streetwear, or fashion-forward looks stand out.

  • At a studio or clean backdrop, your outfit becomes the focus—so choose something that tells your story.

3. Plan for 2–3 OutfitsYou’ll want some variety, so plan a few different looks:

  • Something classic: A nice outfit you’d wear to a special event or dinner.

  • Something trend-forward or personal: Show off your favorite current style, from a cool matching set to wide-leg pants and sneakers.

  • Something sentimental: A varsity jacket, instrument, western boots, or anything meaningful to you.

4. Color Tips: There’s no rule that says you have to wear neutrals—but if you’re choosing bold or bright colors, make sure they complement your skin tone and don’t clash with your location. Solid colors tend to photograph best. Avoid loud graphics and large logos unless they’re part of your look on purpose.

5. Add Layers or Accessories: Jackets, hats, jewelry, or scarves can add personality and flexibility without requiring a full outfit change. Plus, they give your hands something to do in photos!

6. Shoes Matter: TooMatch your shoes to the setting and outfit—clean, stylish sneakers, boots, or sandals work well. Avoid overly worn or bright athletic shoes unless they’re part of your everyday vibe.

Hair, Makeup, & Grooming Tips

  • Stick to what you know: If you wear makeup, opt for a style you feel good in. Natural or glam—either works if it’s true to you.

  • Hair: Avoid drastic changes right before your session. Bring a brush or product for quick touch-ups.

  • Skin: Keep your skin hydrated, and try to avoid tanning or anything new to your skincare routine in the days leading up.

  • Nails: Clean or freshly painted nails (even clear polish) make a difference in close-ups.

  • For guys: Trim facial hair, tidy up your haircut, and make sure your nails and hands are clean.

What to Bring to Your Session

  • Your outfit choices (on hangers are best)

  • Touch-up items: hairbrush, makeup, lint roller, etc.

  • Water and a small snack

  • Props (sports gear, instrument, favorite book, cowboy hat—whatever fits your story)

  • Comfortable shoes for walking between locations

  • A parent, sibling, or friend for moral support if you’d like
