Family Session Experience
I understand how much time and energy goes into planning and having a Family Session.
Yes, beautiful photos are our ultimate goal but I want the whole experience to be easy and memorable for you and your family as well.
Children
Children have their own agenda, am I right? Don't worry if you think your little one won't cooperate or have the same game plan as we do. I keep my posed photos very minimal. A lot of times giving children the freedom to be spontaneous makes for the best portraits. Capturing a child’s unique expressions while they are caught up in the moment with themselves or with a parent or sibling makes for some of the most meaningful photos. I will help with getting us positioned nicely and from there be ready for some fun prompts for snuggles, tickles, playing, and just being natural together.
Groupings
We will have a variety of shots that include everyone together, Just your children together, individuals of each child, your children with each parent, and of course some of just you and your partner. If you have a vision of specific shots you would like to hang on your wall, let me know and I will be sure to capture just what you have in mind.
Location
Most of our family sessions take place outside and we like to plan those for in the morning or late afternoon. Lighting is best within a few hours of sunrise and sunset. In the summertime, I usually suggest doing outdoor sessions with little ones in the morning. It's a bit cooler, kids tend to be happier in the morning and the sunset is usually very late by this time making little ones tired by the time we are able to start a session in the afternoon.
The studio is available to use year-round and makes a great option for doing sessions during the day when the sun is at its highest point. The studio is set up in a lovely lifestyle setting.
When to book
The sooner the better! Family sessions can take place at any time of the year. My most busy times are in the summer and fall and I fill up rather quickly for those months. If you know you are wanting to have a session, I recommend contacting me as soon as possible to make sure I have a time available that accommodates your family's schedule.
Wardrobe
Coordinating several people's outfits can feel overwhelming. I have a few tricks that can help make this process as easy as possible. I have several blog posts with great tips I recommend you read but firstly I recommend starting with one person's outfit, typically mom. You can then draw tones and colors from that outfit that will complement each other. Another easy way to coordinate is by sticking with neutrals. Neutrals photograph beautifully on everyone and are easy to find.
